artist visits & art books

making art books as a way to respond to my environment

I’ve come to the delightful conclusion that I want to make art books as a way to reflect and respond to my environment. I find that having the medium of a book allows me to tell stories that are expressive and reflexive— an embodied auto ethnography of sorts.

Here is one I did in the fall.

I find that making art books is niche that utilizes both the artistic and designerly mind. What the book is may come from an artistic vision or inquiry, while, since books are meant to be used, one also must consider how it functions.

This meet up with Richard coincided with 10 meetings I had/will have with artists for a seperate project I am curating. Inspired by my experience meeting with Richard, I am going to make art books as a way to reflect and respond to these meetings. I hope by using this method I can gain insights into ways to best support the artists and the project but also if I can discover something about myself.
