Back to our regularly scheduled program, join us this Wednesday, November 12 at Bleach Listening Room @ble___ach for the 8th and penultimate episode of the season.
📻 This week, The Ryze Radio features @gogo_penguin — the Manchester trio who inspirationally blend jazz, classical and electronic influences.
Artist Bio:
Gogo Penguin, formed by Mancunian trio, pianist, Chris Illingworth; bassist, Nick Blacka; and drummer, Jon Scott are the prolific genre-defying band responsible for creating sonic compositions they dub as “acoustic-electronica”. Their largely (but not exclusively) acoustic music draws on break-beats, classical influences, jazz, minimalist piano melodies, powerful basslines, drums inspired from electronica and anthemic riffs.
Established in 2012, the trio signed to Blue Note Records becoming their best-selling contemporary instrumental artists and sold over 300,000 albums.
When describing GoGo Penguin’s music, critics have frequently drawn reference Aphex Twin, Massive Attack, Brian Eno and classical composers Debussy, or even contemporary minimal music composers such as Philip Glass.
GoGo Penguin have toured extensively internationally, performing at International Festivals such as Coachella, Outside Lands, Fuji Rock, Blue Dot, Montreal Jazz Festival, La Vienne, Pukkelpop, North Sea Jazz and many more and have sold-out venues across the world.
The trio returned in June 20, 2025 with a powerful new album, ‘Necessary Fictions’, XXIM Records.
Session Details:
💿 The Ryze (@theryze_productions) will be joined by resident DJs: Losso (@losso_____works) and Kikino (@kristenliston), punctuating the session with a curated selection of tracks placing the Gogo Penguin sound in a wider musical conversation.
